Adam Pettigrew and Dave Brown, the regular and well-liked booking office staff, regularly host a good display of Christmas decorations at Alton Station. (The photo below shows Adam Pettigrew, the duty clerk on the afternoon of 20 December.)
Rita Mills, also station staff, is the driving force behind these annual displays. However, she will be retiring next year, having started service with (the then) British Rail in 1981, when she will have completed over 35 years of service.
Hopefully, this will not lead to future Christmas decorations in the booking hall, including the nativity scene, being dropped in future years.
They are much appreciated by passengers on both South West Trains, and the Mid-Hants Railway.
