Friends of Alton Station
SAVE OUR FOOTBRIDGE!
The campaign to save the 1892 wooden station footbridge is going to be officially launched on Saturday 5th August at Alton Station. We have until April 2018 to raise enough money to remove the centre section to store it off-site so that it can be restored and replaced as funds allow. We have split the project into three phases: Rescue; Refurb; Restore. We have set a funding target of £170k for the first phase. We already have a donation pledge of £12,000 under our belt, so we are looking for people who also wish to see the footbridge retained who can give a donation towards saving it for posterity. If you would like to make a donation, please download our pdf leaflet - the link is at the bottom of this page.
Ways to Donate
At present, Friends of Alton Station is in transition from being an unincorporated association to being a registered CIO charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). Once this new organisation is established, we will be asking for gift aid donations and will also set up ways to donate and join online. Until that time (likely to be early September 2017), we are asking for donations by cheque, bank transfer (BACS) or in cash. Once we receive notification that the new organisation has been registered by the Charity Commission, we will update this website and modify our donation details.
If you would like to hold off until we are able to register for gift aid, it would be useful to us if you could offer a donation pledge by E-mail or letter, just to give us an idea of what people are able to offer. Once the charity is registered, we can pass on details of how to make your donation and gift aid declaration.
